Pakistan: Prisoners in jail demand to get 7 policemen held hostage
In Pakistan's Larkana Central Jail, the prisoners finally
released the 7 policemen held hostage. Since last Friday, all these policemen
were hostages of prisoners inside the jail. After this rebellion of the
prisoners which lasted for about 8 days, the policemen have been freed.
According to a report in 'Dawn', the rebel prisoners were
actually demanding the return of one of the 13 dangerous prisoners, Mohammad
Ali Khokhar, back to his prison. Please inform that the jail authorities had
shifted Khokhar to Shikarpur Jail. After which his comrades who were in jail
started a rebellion.
In the face of this revolt of the prisoners, the jail
administration has finally had to bow down. To free the 7 policemen from the
captivity of the prisoners, the jail administration shifted Khokhar out of
Shikarpur Jail to Larkana Central Jail again. It is being told that Khokhar's
companions, who were lodged inside the jail, were agitating for the last 7
months to bring him back.
It is being told that when the prisoners had taken the
policemen hostage, then many attempts were made to solve the matter by talking
to them, but all the efforts proved to be in vain. The prisoners had put
pressure on the jail administration. A group of prisoners climbed the roof of
the jail and set the bedsheets on fire.
Pakistan's opposition party, the Pakistan People's Party
(PPP), later conducted talks between the prison administration and the
prisoners, and after that the matter was resolved. When the prisoners got
assurance from the PPP that they would bring Khokhar back to this jail, then
the prisoners released 5 policemen. These included Imran Zuhrani, Murtaza
Junejo, Tariq Rajpar, Shahnawaz Korkani and Daman Jagirani.
The DIG of the jail said that when Khokhar was brought to
this jail, two other policemen Abdul Rashid Golo and Abdul Waheen Golo were
also released by the prisoners.
